The Fundation

The Francesc Sagrera Foundation was founded on November 21, 1989, to publicize the message and example of life of Francesc Sagrera Riera.

Francesc Sagrera Riera

Born in Breda in 1901
He developed his apostolate in Barcelona and in Moià where he died on February 22, 1940.

Was an Escolapi priest 
After studying at the Diocesan Seminary of Barcelona, ​​he entered the Escola Pia in 1924 and was ordained a priest in 1926. He expressed in his writings a solid theological and intellectual formation.

Was a great teacher and educator
He developed his vocation as a teacher and educator with advanced educational approaches in his time.

Had great sensitivity for social issues
He had to live a difficult time of great ideological debates and religious persecution. He was always next to the most needy, earning everyone’s respect and anticipating the new times that would come later.

He placed the person at the center of his action
He collaborated with the Study Circles of the Federation of Young Christians of Catalonia in the formation of young people to whom he left an indelible mark.

Was a man of high Spirituality
As demonstrated in his writings and in his letters he had an intense spiritual life that was reflected in a natural way in his life. He was a man of integrity.

Died with a reputation for holiness
His death caused a deep shock in all who knew him. His disciples 49 years after his death created the foundation that bears his name. This foundation started the Beatification process that is ongoing in Rome.
